From product to place to process
Digital twins began as engineering models of products. They have since moved to places - buildings, hospitals, data centers - and to processes such as battery production and laboratory work. AI is what makes this practical: it turns sensor data into a model that updates itself instead of one that engineers maintain by hand.
Why manufacturing leads growth
New factories, especially for batteries and semiconductors, are expensive to ramp up. A twin lets producers test changes before they touch the line, which shortens ramp-up and reduces scrap - a return that is easy to measure, and therefore easy to fund.
The organisation as a model
Corporate twins - models of how a whole company operates - are the most ambitious category. They are early and depend on clean data across functions, but they show where the idea is heading: simulation as a management tool, not only an engineering one.
About the data
All figures are Market-Reports.com estimates of global market revenue in US dollars, with 2025 as the base year and forecasts to 2035; growth rates are compound annual growth rates (CAGR) for 2025-2035. They come from our catalogue of more than 4,600 market reports across 19 industries, in which every market is sized on its own definition. Markets overlap - an AI server is also part of AI infrastructure - so the figures in this study must not be added together. Medians are calculated across all reports whose market name matches the theme, as published in October 2026.
